Ialysos

Ialysos (or Trianda) was the birth place of Diagoras, the famous Olympic champion. It is located on the bay of the same name, which is protected from the strong southerley winds. The pre-Hellenic name indicates the very old history of Ialysos. First Minoans, and then Mycenaean traders, colonized this sheltered region and they built a great city. Later the dDorian inhabitants of Ialysos dominated the northern part of Rhodes and they created the strongest city-state on the island. The ancient acropolis of Ialysos, on Filmerimos hill, was later used by both the Byzantines and the Knights. Today the municipality of Ialysos is a popular cosmopolitan resort. The modern hotel units of Ixia and Triand recieve thousands of guests all through the year - holiday makers, conference goers and business people.
