This large mountain village is the centre fo the Rhodian wine trade. Here are located the islands vineyards on teracced fans that spill down from the stark slopes of 1,215m Mt Attavyros. The Emery Winery, at the western outskirts of Emponas, stages conducted tours of its processing plant and caters for numerous coach parites. The village does a strong secondary trade in carpet weaving, embroidery and general souvenirs. Take a stroll in the upper reaches of Emponas, where there are a number of venerable carpet weavers at work, especially near the Church of Panayia.
